Morgan Page will briefly present the controversy that has surrounded the production of Buying Sex (2013). We will then engage in a critical viewing of the film.
It has been argued that Buying Sex falls short of presenting a balanced overview of potential policy options for sex work in Canada. In order to remedy this situation, students from Genders and Sexuality (GNDR 2006) will present an overview of the Canadian context, the Swedish Model, as well as the decriminalization of sex work in New Zealand. Students will also address labour laws and health care policy.
