Dr. Gary Latham, secretary of state professor of organizational effectiveness in the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto, will present. 

Goals can be set consciously or they can be primed in the subconscious. Both goal setting theory and the automaticity model provide frameworks for doing one versus the other. This presentation will describe both field and laboratory experiments that consciously set and prime goals to pursue organizationally relevant tasks. The benefit of testing the automaticity model within the framework of goal setting theory will be explained.

Dr. Latham is a past president of the Canadian Psychological Association and the Society for Industrial-Organizational Psychology and the current president of work and organizational psychology of the International Association of Applied Psychology. In addition to being awarded the status of fellow in each of these associations, he is a fellow of the Academy of Management, Association for Psychological Science, American Psychological Association, National Academy of Human Resources and the Royal Society of Canada. He has served on the board of directors of the Centre for Creative Leadership and the Society for Human Resource Management.
