Grenfell Campus prepares to welcome new students

By Melanie Callahan | Aug. 28, 2013

Orientation 2013 is designed to help new students make the move to Grenfell Campus as smooth as possible.

Edmund Walsh and Serina Greene are planning orientation activities for new students at Grenfell Campus. “The goal of orientation is to prepare students for university and to provide them with a positive experience during the first few weeks of university,” said Edmund Walsh, orientation marketing co-ordinator. “We will introduce them to services and resources available to them. The hope is that they make connections with other new students and feel like they are being welcomed to the Grenfell community.”

More than 300 first-year students are registered in activities which will provide them with all they need to know about starting university, said Mr. Walsh. Grenfell 101: What You Need to Succeed will teach students about attending classes, paying tuition and fees, and services to students. Parent orientation and orientation sessions for non-traditional students have been also been planned.

But with activities like concerts, fitness classes and social activities, orientation is also about having fun. Orientation 2013 will begin Sunday, Sept. 1, and will run until Sept. 15. For more information, check out grenfell.mun.ca.

Campus City Connect orientation activities will run concurrently. This joint effort of the city’s colleges, university and the City of Corner Brook includes a Party in the Park, Three Bear Open Air massive outdoor concert, Opportunity Expo, a drive-in movie and a Grenfell Campus Student Union concert featuring Matt Mays with the Fortunate Ones.
