Memorial's vision, mission and values now online
A process that has occupied much of the Memorial University community over the past number of years is culminating with the development of a website for the institution’s new vision, mission and values.
Memorial’s president, Dr. Gary Kachanoski, led the initiative that was designed to create the institution’s first vision statement, and review and refresh the mission statement and the core values that the university had adopted and has followed over the years.
The new vision, mission and values statements have been approved by the Senate, Memorial’s academic governing body, and the Board of Regents, which has overall responsibility for the governance of the university.
“The road to the vision, mission and values was a natural progression from extensive consultations that we undertook to develop Memorial’s three fundamental institutional planning frameworks in Teaching and Learning, Research, and Public Engagement,” said Dr. Kachanoski. “This will underpin and inspire all our activities for most of the next decade.”
Dr. Kachanoski said the entire exercise brings clearer definition to the role Memorial University is to play over the coming years.
“The frameworks and the vision, mission and values articulate a true desire to distinguish Memorial as a top public university in Canada and beyond,” he said. “They reflect a deep understanding of the university’s importance to the province and Memorial’s responsibility to fulfill its special obligations to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador. Staying true to our values and guided by our frameworks, we will continue to fulfill our mission to achieve our vision.”
