Memorial to remain closed Wednesday, Jan. 8

Jan. 7, 2014

All Memorial University campuses and facilities on the Island of Newfoundland will remain closed for students and clients, as well as the majority of faculty and staff on Wednesday, Jan. 8, to support continued provincial energy conservation efforts.

Some faculty and staff will be requested to come into work on Wednesday to ensure the campuses are prepared for the resumption of activity when reopened. Those employees will be contacted directly by their departments or supervisors. Other faculty and staff are reminded that workplaces remain closed to conserve energy.

The closure includes the St. John’s campus, Grenfell Campus and Marine Institute (including Ridge Road campus, Offshore Safety and Survival Centre in Foxtrap, Lewisporte, SERT Centre in Stephenville, Southside Marine Base, Holyrood facility and community-based programs).

Student residences remain open and have full power at this time, though energy conservation measures remain in place. On the St. John’s campus, the main dining hall is also operational.

An update on the university’s re-opening will be provided on Wednesday at www.mun.ca, on Twitter by following @MemorialU,  through Memorial’s Newsline service (internal email) and via local media.
