Memorial has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Eureka Pumps of Norway, a pump supplier with more than 35 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, offering a range of pumps and generator sets that covers a majority of applications. The MOU will mean collaboration on research activities, teaching, and employment of engineering co-op students.

This MOU allows Eureka to become more active in Newfoundland and Labrador, and Eureka CEO Jarle Tautra is excited about the opportunities.

“Memorial University is an international leader in innovative cold ocean research,” she said. “Our 35 years of experience in the oil and gas industry operating on the Norwegian continental shelf and offshore Newfoundland and Labrador challenges us to continue to innovate our own technology. We want to work with Memorial University to advance our work.”

For Memorial, the MOU means an opportunity to learn from Eureka’s extensive experience on the Norwegian continental shelf and its activity in international markets.

“We are excited about the opportunities for our students and researchers to work directly with Eureka,” said Dr. Greg Naterer, dean, Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science. “This will be a great learning opportunity for them to partner with Eureka on the development of ocean technologies.”

The MOU has created work term opportunities for Memorial engineering students at Eureka’s headquarters in Oslo, Norway, where design, engineering, assembly and testing are carried out. The students will learn from Eureka’s global training system for operators and technicians. The MOU also gives Memorial researchers opportunities to work at Eureka’s proposed offshore pump test and service test facility in the province. As well, there are plans to exchange research publications, collaborate on projects and pursue educational initiatives with Memorial.
