Stolen computers may have led to possible breach of private information
Three computers stolen from Coughlan College over the weekend may have led to a privacy breach.
Sometime between Aug. 15-18, one faculty computer and two administrative computers were taken from the School of Social Work.
Campus Enforcement and Patrol (CEP) were immediately notified and began an investigation.
CEP has since made recommendations for enhanced security at Coughlan College.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary has been contacted and is investigating the theft.
All members of the school have been notified.
There is a formal and detailed process around potential privacy breaches, said Rosemary Thorne, the university’s privacy officer. She added that while the theft of desktop computers is rare, there is always a concern around privacy with all electronic devices.

Social Work is currently relocating to Coughlan College and Tiffany Court to allow for renovations to St. John’s College.
