For the third year in a row, Enactus Memorial swept the Enactus Canada Regional Exposition for Atlantic Canada. The event took place Feb. 26-28 in Halifax, N.S.

During the event, students showcase how their community outreach projects and business ventures are making a real impact in Canada and beyond through rounds of live, presentation-based competitions.

The team, made up of 82 member volunteers and a leadership team of 21 who competed, won all three of the topic competitions at the event, including the TD Entrepreneruship Challenge, the Capital One Financial Education Challenge and the Scotiabank EcoLiving Green Challenge.

Enactus Memorial is the only team to have won all of the regional challenges for three consecutive years. They will now move on to the national level of competition taking place May 11-13 at the 2015 Enactus Canada National Exposition in Toronto, Ont.

Also at the event, Memorial business student Emily Bland was named Atlantic Canada’s HSBC Woman Leader of Tomorrow, and will be one of six students in the country considered for the national title. The award recognizes female Enactus students who inspire their peers, community and country through entrepreneurial leadership.

Another Memorial business student and owner of Athlete Aid Apparel, Noel Moffatt, who was previously named Newfoundland and Labrador’s 2015 Student Entrepreneur Provincial Champion by Enactus Canada, competed for the title of regional champion.

Immediately following the competition, Mr. Moffatt swapped his business suit for a Sea-Hawks jersey and played in the Atlantic University Sport Men’s basketball championship, where he was named the 2014-15 recipient of the Student-Athlete Community Service Award. Mr. Moffatt will also be the Atlantic conference nominee for the prestigious Canadian Interuniversity Sport Ken Shields Award, which rewards excellence in the student-athlete.

“We had a great showing, and our students were once again outstanding,” said Lynn Morrissey, faculty advisor, Enactus Memorial. “It was certainly a proud day for Memorial University. Now we begin preparing for nationals in May!”

Enactus Canada, the country’s largest student leadership development organization, shapes entrepreneurial leaders who are passionate about advancing the economic, social and environmental health of Canada. Guided by academic advisors and business experts, post-secondary students lead community empowerment projects and business ventures in communities coast-to-coast.

Memorial regularly performs well in the Enactus Canada Regional Exposition for Atlantic Canada, which brings together student, academic and industry leaders to celebrate the achievements of Canada’s future leaders and entrepreneurs. One of 60 teams in Canada, they have been recognized as the best in the country seven times and in 2008 won the Enactus World Cup.
