Spring convocation at Corner Brook Arts and Culture Centre
Spring convocation sessions will take place in Corner Brook on Friday, May 8. View the live webcasts here. Broadcasting will begin 10 minutes prior to the start of the session.
Grenfell Campus students attending Memorial University’s spring convocation will do so at the Corner Brook Arts and
Culture Centre this year.
Memorial University has held its fall convocation in Corner Brook at that facility for a number of years, making it the logical new location for spring convocation. The move is necessary because of plans for the re-development of the city’s civic centre annex, the former venue for the spring convocation session in Corner Brook. The smaller Arts and Culture Centre venue requires multiple sessions to accommodate the 160 graduates and guests, similar to the multiple sessions held in St. John’s.
There will be three sessions in total in Corner Brook on Friday, May 8:
10 a.m. – B.Ed. (primary/elementary), BN, MA, M.Ed., MN
3 p.m. – BA (Hons.), BA, B.Sc. (Hons), B.Sc.
7:30 p.m. – BFA, B.Rec. (Co-op.), BBA, BRM
Honorary degrees will be presented at the first and third sessions. For her contributions to Inuit life and culture, in particular to the lives of those at risk, Inuk elder Sarah Anala will receive the degree of doctor of laws at the 10 a.m. session. And for her long commitment to and achievement in film, filmmaker Barbara Doran will receive the degree of doctor of laws at the 7:30 p.m. session.
Grenfell students at Western Regional School of Nursing will continue their celebration in the afternoon with the annual School of Nursing awards ceremony.
The ceremonies will be webcast live at 10 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., after which time they will be archived for viewing over the next few weeks.
The ceremony will also be aired on Rogers TV, Cable 9, in the weeks ahead.
