Grenfell Campus celebrates 40 years with The Once
Grenfell is having a weeklong 40th birthday party complete with a concert by Memorial alums The Once.
To commemorate Grenfell Campus’s 40th anniversary, celebrations will be in conjunction with I ♥ MUNdays/I ♥ Grenfell MUNdays.
“I’m thrilled that we are celebrating not only 40 years, but also so many great developments and achievements,” said Dr. Mary Bluechardt, vice-president, Grenfell Campus. “This celebration will help us recognize the role we play in the socio-economic and cultural development of the province.”
The highlight of the 40th anniversary will be a concert featuring The Once. Members Geraldine Hollett and Phil Churchill are both graduates of Grenfell’s theatre program, and bandmate Andrew Dale is a graduate of Memorial’s School of Music. The group has collected a trio of Canadian Folk Music Awards, been named Newfoundland and Labrador Art Council’s Artist of the Year and earned a Juno nomination for best roots/traditional album. The concert will also feature special guest singer/songwriter Emma Peckford. The concert will take place Friday, Oct. 23, at the GCSU Backlot, Doors open at 8 p.m. Tickets are available via www.grenfell.mun.ca.
Other festivities include “Luncheon with the VP,” a complimentary lunch for members of the first class of Grenfell in 1975, as well as a special social for Grenfell’s alumni in St. John’s. The event, which features complimentary refreshments and appetizers, will be held at the Gypsy Tearoom as a precursor to Memorial’s Super TSC Concert.
Meanwhile, the coinciding I love Grenfell celebrations, taking place Oct. 23-27, will include the annual Teddy Bear Clinic, International Night, a “faculty-who-went-to-Grenfell panel” and the I ♥ Grenfell MUNdays market.
