Following the conclusion of litigation against Memorial University in late July, the university has concluded its investigation into alleged academic misconduct by Dr. R.K. Chandra, a retired medical clinical faculty member.

The investigative report completed by Dr. William Pryse-Phillips, retired professor of medicine, has been finalized and its findings of academic misconduct in connection with a published research paper have been accepted by the university. As per policy, this information has been shared directly with the British Medical Journal, Lancet and Nutrition, as well as Eastern Health and the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Physicians and Surgeons.

Dr. Pryse-Phillips also recommended that the investigative report be made public, and in keeping with that recommendation the full text of the report as received from the author is available online.

“Memorial takes its responsibilities related to ethics and the integrity of research seriously and we are confident that the current policies and procedures for preventing, investigating and, if necessary, punishing research misconduct meet the highest possible national standards,” said Dr. Richard Marceau, Memorial’s vice-president (research).
