In the final day of competition at the Students in Free Enterprise national exposition, the ACE Memorial team has advanced to the final round in the SIFE competition.

The ACE Memorial SIFE team – Heather Comerford, Sarah Fisher, Michael Harris, Haroon Iqbal, Lisa Smart and Michael Wadden  has advanced to the final round of competition after winning in both the opening and semi-final rounds.

ACE Memorial is competing against Mount Royal College, Ryerson University, the University of Calgary and Wilfred Laurier University in the final round. The overall winner of the competition will be named the most enterprising campus in Canada and will represent the country in the SIFE World Cup in Singapore in October 2008.

In the HSBC SIFE Financial Education Challenge, the ACE Memorial team was crowned national champions after an outstanding performance. In this competition, the students focused on their programs that improve financial literacy, such as project BEGIN, a financial literacy program for high school students, and FLAGS, a new program for seniors currently under development. The financial literacy team is comprised of Preston Aitken, Duncan De Young, Liam Kelly, Dana Noseworthy and Lauren Tobin.

In the TD SIFE Entrepreneurship Challenge, the ACE Memorial team won at the regional level but did not place nationally. Team members Johnathon Earle, Nick Hounsell Will Penney, Cassidy Quinton and Jessica Shannahan all competed extremely well.

“All three teams made superb presentations and the team members were outstanding ambassadors for Memorial University and the province,” said Dr. Gary Gorman, dean of the Faculty of Business Administration. “I am very proud of their accomplishments so far and excited about the final round of competition.”

The ACE Memorial team has won back-to-back national championships and last year were named first runners up in the SIFE World Cup. This year, the team worked on 17 projects that impacted over 2,400 people all across Newfoundland and Labrador.

The results of the final round of the SIFE competition will be available at approximately 7:30 p.m.
