Memorial has reached a tentative collective agreement with the Lecturer’s Union of Memorial University of Newfoundland (LUMUN). LUMUN represents per course instructors who teach 300 course sections a semester.

The deal includes the provincial template for wage increases of eight per cent, four per cent, four per cent, and four per cent in a four-year agreement. It also recognizes seniority in the appointment process.  The deal is subject is to ratification by the union members and the Board of Regents in the New Year.

Morgan Cooper, director of Faculty Relations at Memorial, said that the agreement is historic.

“It is a first agreement between the university and union and will lay the foundation for Memorial’s future relationship with per course instructors,” he said.

Mr. Cooper noted that first agreements are particularly challenging to negotiate.

Both parties bargained hard and are unanimous in supporting the agreement.
