Memorial University’s Board of Regents has begun to implement changes to the management structure at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College. The changes were recommended by the provincial government in December.

At its Feb. 8 meeting, the Board approved the recommendation that the position of principal of Grenfell be re-titled vice-president (Corner Brook) and appointed Dr. Holly Pike, the current acting principal, to that renamed position. Like Memorial’s vice-president (research) and vice-president (finance and administration), the vice-president (Corner Brook) has been invited to attend meetings of the Board of Regents.

In addition, the Board created the Sir Wilfred Grenfell College Secretariat. The Secretariat will include a director, associate director of administration and finance, associate director of communications and executive assistant. The Board also approved the creation of a Task Force on Renewed Governance Structure for Sir Wilfred Grenfell College to oversee the implementation of these and other initiatives. The Board also recommended changes to its own ad hoc Committee to Strengthen Governance.

These initiatives are consistent with the changes recommended by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador to facilitate growth at Memorial’s Corner Brook campus.
