Application process for Instructional Development Grants now online

By Courtenay Alcock | Jan. 13, 2012

Applications for Memorial’s 2012 Instructional Development Grants will now be submitted online. The initiative to move the application process to an electronic format will increase efficiency and better facilitate the sharing of applications with adjudicators.

Previously, applicants were required to submit printed copies of their proposals, which were then photocopied and mailed to each member of the selection committee. Now applicants will use an online form to submit proposals, then members of the selection committee will access the submissions through a secure URL where they can download and review the files.

“We are very pleased to introduce the online submission of grant applications,” said Joyce Fewer, manager of the Instructional Development office within Distance Education, Learning and Teaching Support (DELTS). “Not only does it provide an easier way for applicants to submit proposals, it will more easily facilitate the selection process to ensure the selection committee has immediate access to each application as it is received.”

Initiated by the Office of the Provost and Vice-President (Academic), the Instructional Development Grants program was established to encourage creative and innovative practices in teaching and learning at Memorial. The intent of the program is to support the implementation of new teaching projects and programs designed to both enhance teaching and student learning.

Despite the change in the way applications are submitted, the requirements and process remain the same. The online form requires applicants to enter the Principal Applicant, Email Address, and Title of Proposal fields, and allows applicants to attach and submit up to four supporting documents with the application.

Applicants can request up to $5,000 for their project, with a total of $50,000 of funding available through the grant.

Full-time faculty members of Memorial are invited to apply. Contractual faculty members, per-course instructors and instructional staff are invited to co-apply with a full-time faculty member who is named as the principal applicant.

The application deadline for proposals is Feb. 17, 2012. Information about the program and the online application form are available at www.delts.mun.ca/faculty/teachingawards/instructional.php. For those interested in applying and want advice on a proposal idea or want more information about the program, an information session is being held on Monday, Jan. 16, from 12-1:30 p.m. in ED-2030B.

The Instructional Development Grants program is administered by DELTS in collaboration with the Office of the Provost and Vice-President (Academic).
