Full slate of summer activity camps scheduled for Grenfell Campus

For the first time, children aged 7-9 years will have the opportunity to master their musical theatre skills as part of this summer’s junior musical theatre activity camp at Grenfell Campus.

Director Chris Jackman, musical director Shari Porter and choreographer Sarah Williamson will instruct campers in audition skills, acting, voice, movement and stagecraft.

A two-week version of this camp is being offered for older children, aged 10-18 years. Musical theatre is just one of 20 camps taking place this summer at Grenfell Campus, with topics as diverse as volleyball and crime scene investigation.

Other offerings include Stay in Sync, W.O.W. (Week of Wonders), Mini Masterpieces, Basketball and Power Play. More than 530 children and youth are registered in Grenfell’s 36th season of summer activity camps, which will run June 25 through Aug. 25.

“At activity camps, campers will have an unforgettable summer, partake in new experiences and learn from highly-qualified leaders,” said Erika Barrett, activity camp supervisor. “Participants will meet new friends, receive instruction from top coaches and instructors, and take part in other social activities, such as games, field trips and swimming.”

Fourteen leaders, skilled in their respective fields, will be hired to deliver these camps. Each camper will receive a crested activity camp T-shirt, a group photo and a certificate of participation.

"About 13,500 campers have attended Grenfell’s activity camps since Grenfell opened in 1975,” said Marilyn Forward, program developer with Grenfell’s Community Education and College Relations. “There’s a reason for our popularity – we provide talented instructors and coaches, creating a summer environment in which kids will love to learn. Plus children get to experience learning on a university campus – an enrichment opportunity most people don’t experience until high school graduation.”
