Campus City Connect welcomes students on west coast
As Corner Brook’s first pan-campus initiative draws closer, event organizers are continuing to reach out to all post-secondary students in the city to make them aware of Campus City Connect.
All students who attend post-secondary school in Corner Brook will be welcomed Sept. 5-7 through an all-encompassing orientation initiative of the recently formed Campus City Committee.
“We’re inviting businesses to join us at the fair and connect with students who potentially could be employees,” said Charles Pender, director, alumni affairs and development, Grenfell Campus. “The fair will also serve to show students what services are available to them, as well as to feature possible volunteering opportunities.”
On Thursday, Sept. 6, a drive-in movie will be shown on the lower level parking lot of the Pepsi Centre. On a massive inflatable screen, students will enjoy the blockbuster film The Avengers from the comfort of their cars or lawn chairs.
The final event is A Rockin’ Time, a community concert sponsored by RBC that will take place at the Pepsi Centre on Friday, Sept.7. The concert will feature Andrew James O’Brien, The Navigators, Goldwithy and Sherman Downey and the Silver Lining, among other acts.
The goal of the committee is to transform Corner Brook into the “campus city” of choice for students pursuing post-secondary education through the fostering of a better understanding of the role post-secondary institutions play in the economic, social and cultural fabric of the City of Corner Brook and the western region of the island.
“The objectives of the committee are simple – bring more students to Corner Brook and to make them feel welcome while they study here,” said Mr. Pender. “These goals will be achieved through connecting students with Corner Brook’s business community, increasing social and economic activities in the community and creating initiatives that meet the needs of post-secondary education students throughout the year.”
