Tuesday is Touque Day

By Courtenay Alcock | October 17, 2012

The warmest summer on record is now behind us, and it’s inevitable that it will soon be time to break out our winter wear. In preparation for cold months ahead, and in the spirit of MUNdays, Distance Education, Learning and Teaching Support (DELTS) will be giving out touques to get the Memorial community ready.

As part of I ♥ MUNdays, DELTS is hosting its fourth annual Touque Day event on Tuesday, Oct. 23, collecting donations of gently-used winter accessories to donate to a local community centre. The event aims to stir up a spirit of kindness and promote giving back to the community, bringing warmth and fuzziness in more ways than one.

As a token of appreciation, the team at DELTS will exchange donations with a brand new Memorial@Home touque. Each year, almost 200 Memorial@Home touques are distributed to the university community for their participation in the event.

The centre receiving the donations has a clothing store in which community members can purchase an entire bag of clothing for $1. The centre was thrilled with the donations from DELTS in the past and indicated that this event is a huge help in replenishing their stock.

To participate in Tuesday’s Touque Day, drop off your scarves, hats, jackets and mittens to the Education (G.H. Hickman) building, room 1033 or room 2000 between 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23. DELTS will donate your items to the Froude Avenue Community Centre, and send you off in style with a Memorial@Home touque.
