By Moira Baird | Nov. 30, 2015

The five-year term of Dr. Raymond Gosine as associate vice president (research) expires in May 2016. Dr. Gosine has indicated that he wishes to be considered for reappointment for a second term.

The process for renewal will follow the procedures governing the appointment, review, promotion and tenure of academic administrators.

As previously communicated, a committee has been struck and is chaired by Dr. Richard Marceau, vice-president (research). The committee held its first meeting Thursday, Nov. 26.

The review committee, which previously included 10 members, has been amended and now consists of eight members.

The elected members of the committee are as follows:

  • Dr. John McGuire, associate professor, Division of Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine;
  • Dr. Marco Merkli, professor, Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Faculty of Science;
  • Dr. Muhammad Aziz Rahman, professor, Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science;
  • Cyr Couturier, aquatic scientist and chair of aquaculture programs, Marine Institute.

The appointed members of the committee are as follows:

  • Dr. Jennifer Keyte, director, Animal Care Services;
  • Dr. Heather Carnahan, dean, School of Human Kinetics and Recreation;
  • Samantha Bokma, graduate student, gender studies;
  • Dr. Richard Marceau, vice-president (research) and committee chair.

The review process requires consultation with the university community. The review committee has also determined that the consultation be extended to selected external stakeholders. To this end, an online survey has been developed as a way of allowing individuals to provide confidential feedback relevant to this review.

Survey responses will remain confidential.

The consultation period by survey will take place between Monday, Nov. 30, and Friday, Dec. 11, at 5 p.m.

Additionally, Dr. Gosine’s curriculum vitae and the original terms of reference for the associate vice-president research (collaborations and partnerships) position are available in the main office of the vice-president (research) for anyone wishing to review them. The office is located in the Arts and Administration building, A-2021.

The committee expects to complete its review and to make a final recommendation to the president in early 2016.
