History reconstructed

The efforts of alumnus Jamie Brake to restore Labrador’s oldest snowmobile made national headlines recently after he gave a special presentation in Happy Valley-Goose Bay highlighting the work to return the historic machine to its former glory. CBC Television’s The National included Mr. Brake on its telecast March 20 and a video posted to The National’s Facebook page has garnered more than 29,700 views. A story was also included on the March 20 edition of Here and Now, CBC’s provincial suppertime news program. Mr. Brake, who holds a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in archaeology from the Faculty of Arts, delivered the presentation Recovering Labrador’s First Snowmobile March 19 at Memorial's Labrador Institute. The snowmobile – a converted Ford Model T – was first brought to Labrador with the second Rawson-MacMillan Subarctic Expedition in 1927 and unearthed in Labrador several years ago.
