Canada's Garden Day

Friday, June 14, 2013, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
306 Mount Scio Rd.

At MUN Botanical Garden, we are celebrating Canada’s Garden Day with free admission and special Garden Day programs, including garden tours, nature hikes, family programs and more. This first National Garden Day will see numerous events across the country in celebration of Canada’s public gardens and home gardening.

Programs will include:

PlantWatch NL Information Session: 10 a.m.
PlantWatch is part of a national NatureWatch series of volunteer monitoring programs designed to help identify ecological changes that may be affecting our environment. Learn how to become a "citizen scientists" and get involved in environmental research by simply recording flowering times for locally selected plant species.

Family Nature Program: 10:30 a.m.
Discover our garden with nature exploration, storytelling, and songs. An excellent opportunity for parents (or care-givers) and children to have fun together while learning about nature. A respect for nature and all its “critters” will be emphasized. Education staff will lead you and your family on a leisurely guided stroll along the exploration trail, through the flower gardens and down to Oxen Pond, where we will feed the ducks (duck food is provided). Parents are invited to bring along a healthy snack for story time.

Garden Tours: 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
Bring your gardening questions for our staff, get tips for maintaining a garden in our challenging climate and see what's blooming at MUN Botanical Garden.

Nature Hike: 2:30 p.m.
Explore Newfoundland barrens, boreal forest, or bog as you hike one of our nature trails with education staff. Learn about Newfoundland plants and animals in spring while you enjoy plenty of fresh air and exercise.
