Born in Dublin, Ireland, Fergus O'Byrne moved to Canada in the late 1960s where he became a founding member of the Irish folk band Ryan's Fancy. The group moved to St. John's, Newfoundland in the early 1970s and toured extensively throughout North America and Ireland until 1985. Since then, O'Byrne has enjoyed a busy and successful solo career, touring North America, Europe and Hong Kong. In 2004, Fergus, as part of Ryan's Fancy, was awarded the ECMA Dr. Helen Creighton Lifetime Achievement Award. This award recognizes an individual or group who has had a profound and lasting effect on the Atlantic Canadian music industry. In 2005, along with Jim Payne, he was the recipient of the inaugural Arts In Education Award by the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council. Learn more about Fergus O'Byrne here.
