CAP donation for Harry Kiefte Scholarship Fund
Last June, the faculty and students of the Department of Physics and Physical Oceanography hosted the Annual Congress of the Canadian Association of Physicists (CAP). Local organizers and the CAP were gratified by the registration, which, at 463 participants, was well above expectations. It is CAP policy to recognize efforts of the local congress organizers by donating a portion of the funds raised, in support of the congress, toward local initiatives for the promotion of physics or physics teaching. CAP's donation for the 2011 congress will go toward the Harry Kiefte Scholarship Fund, which was a department priority in the recent Dare To campaign. Harry Kiefte was a colleague and former department head who passed away in 1997. Physics head Dr. John Whitehead and Dr. Mike Morrow, co-chairs for the 2011 CAP congress, presented a cheque for $3,850 to Daphne Corbett, administrative officer for physics.
