Three Minute Thesis Competition

Pictured is Kirk Luther, a PhD candidate in the Department of Psychology, and the grand prize winner of $1,000 up in the MUNdays Three Minute Thesis Challenge at The Landing Oct. 21. He won for his rapid-fire presentation on An Analysis of Child Interviewing Practices: A Field Study of One Canadian Police Organization.

Andrew Bullen, a master's student in the Faculty of Medicine was the runner-up, winning $500 for a presentation on his thesis topic of Genetic Modifiers of ARVC/D in the Newfoundland Population.

Stacy Phillips, a master's student in the Department of Geology, won the People’s Choice Award, a $200 Bitters gift certificate. Her thesis topic is The U-Pb, Sm-Nd and Lu-Hf Isotope Geochemistry of Monazite and Zircon in the Old Woman Mountains, Mojave Desert, California.

It was the first time the event took place at Memorial, drawing 24 graduate students who had three minutes on the clock to present a compelling and concise oration on their thesis to a live audience. A judging panel awarded the top two prizes; the People's Choice Award was sponsored by the Graduate Students Union.
